These replaced a pair of fairly worn Bostonian Ipswich shoes and are a solid choice for wearing in a business casual office setting. While the Rockports are a bit more expensive than the shoes they replaced, I feel the difference in the sole and inserts. In addition to having good cushion, they have a solid feel and do not roll as much as others. They are not as supportive as a running shoe, but are obviously not designed or advertised as such. Neither are they the same level of quality as Ecco shoes, which are my benchmark for quality in a rubber sole, business casual style shoe. The leather is of similar quality to my Bostonians and is dull black. The shoes did take polish and brighten a bit, but they do not look like $250 high quality shoes. After wearing for three weeks the shoes show very slight creases from walking. The leather is flexible and has not split or cracked at all.Initially I was concerned about the somewhat aggressive looking tread which seemed out of place for such a shoe; however, this is a non-issue when walking on carpet. It is also a nice feature in the rain or on wet tile when compared to others with a rubber sole.My only complaint is that the shoe was a bit wide compared to essentially every other shoe I wear. I have them laced about as tightly as they will go, but they still have a decent amount of excess in the middle portion of the shoe. The toe box is roomy, but not too big. Length is correct for me.Overall, given the price and the purpose, I am pleased with these shoes. I would recommend them for the price and the look.
